Beginner’s Guide to RAM

How much RAM is enough for your system? There is not a one size fits all answer to this question, as it depends on how much you use the computer and the type of programs you have installed.

Assess your current usage

For instance, if you only have a few graphics games that you frequently download from the internet then you will probably not need the RAM of a four-gigabyte drive. However, if you have a typical desktop computer with hundreds of programs and you have many programs open at once then you should look at purchasing the RAM of at least two gigabytes.

One of the first steps to purchasing the right RAM is to figure out what your hardware configuration is. All of the information can be found in the operating system information found on the system tray or on the screen when you turn on the computer.

For example, on a PC it will show the minimum requirements for RAM, and for a MAC it will list the minimum specs for RAM. The requirements for RAM are almost always going to be the same no matter what type of computer you have.

If you only have a single processor you will probably only need two gigabytes of RAM. As you get to have more processors and more RAM you will find that you have more than enough RAM to run most of the applications you have on your computer.

The prices of RAM will also vary based on what you want to buy. You will pay a bit more money for RAM that is rated for more than one processor, but for most of the things you will be fine paying the extra few dollars to get a little more RAM.

Shopping around for RAM

A good rule of thumb is to go online and look for the best price on RAM. When you shop online you will get a better price than you would in the stores, but you should still take a little time to compare the various companies so that you can find the best deals on RAM.

One of the things you will want to think about when you are looking for the best RAM for your computer is how much space you are going to need. Many of the companies that sell RAM give you a free amount of RAM for free and then the price for the additional RAM is determined by the amount of RAM you choose to purchase.

You should know that the RAM specifications on the system tray may not include the amount of RAM you will need for your computer. If you are unsure of what is RAM and what is just RAM, then you should go to an online retailer and have them provide you with the amount of RAM you will need.

  • You should also take a look at the quality of RAM available for your computer.
  • Some RAM manufacturers offer RAM with the basic standard specifications
  • and other RAM manufacturers will offer more memory than the basic standard specification.

So, if you are considering purchasing RAM then you will want to take a look at what is RAM and what is just RAM before you make your decision. Also, you should talk to other computer users who might have more knowledge about what is RAM and what is just RAM.

You will find that when you do research about what is RAM and what is just RAM you will find that there are a number of brands that offer both types of RAM. In fact, you should be able to find a RAM brand that offers you the best of both worlds.
